Bringing Home the Goods

I stood on this spot for about an hour, trying to capture the people by. When panning in the same direction as your subject is moving, you can get the blurry background (aka motion blur), it takes a bit of practice – that's why I spend an hour, on the same spot – but when you nail it, it's pretty cool, if you ask me.

A good starting point is to set your camera on shutter priority, and then set the speed at around 1/125 of a second. Find a suitable focal distance, remember you are panning, and that brings the subject, at first closer to you and the further away. I would say that you should set the focal distance, so it fits your subject, when it's right in front of you. And then just aim, pan and press the shutter, or in other words practice, practice and practice.
