The TSL Waterfall

I spent an extended week in a small town called Tourrettes sur Loup in France in February 2010.

Right outside the town, I found this little waterfall, which I made a photo of, because back then I found it a bit interesting. Now, almost five years later, I find the photo a bit dull.

So I decided to fool around with some textures. I had 3 brackets to play with, so I started out by making an HDR in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2. And then I imported all 4 photos into Photoshop, cleaned the falling water up, and masked in the brights’ exposure.
I also clean up a lot of garbage lying around the base of the waterfall.

The blur was added through the plugin Topaz Lens Effects – which I don’t use that often, preferring the ones from Nik – I was aiming for an old/plastic camera effect.

Once I was happy with the photo, I started to import textures. I went through a lot before I found something I was happy with.

So do I like the photo better now? Well, I like it more now than without the textures, that’s for sure, the textures and the “old camera” effect really add something good. But I also have to admit that it’s not the best photo I made, but then again, it’s not the worst either.
