Stop Following Me – Polaroid Plate #14

Stop Following Me – Polaroid Plate #14

In the Summer of 2006, I went on a road trip with 4 of My friends, we drove from Berlin all the way down to somewhere in the middle of Croatia and back again. It was one hell of a trip, cause we hadn’t planed anything, and it turn out that we all had different ideas of what the trip was all about, and sure enough we had our arguments, at one point I was ready to go to the nearest train station and take the next train home.

This makes It sound like it was a really bad trip, but looking back at it today, I it wasn’t that bad at all, there where many great moments as well, but I learned that if you are going on a road trip with more the 1 person, you really need to sit down and talk about what the trip should be like, you don’t have to plan it in minor details, but definitely sit down and have at talk about it.

This shoot was made in the small – and very cozy – Croatian town Rovinj, I was just walking around enjoying the hot weather, when I saw this lady walking her dog, she was walking up this small road, and just as I started shooting som pictures, she turn around as if she could hear the shutter clicking. Lucky me, cause that made the shot that much better.

I was walking around Rovinj – a small town on the Istrian peninsula in Croatia – to find some interesting things to shoot. I came by this little sign on a nice looking street, as I stood there trying out different compositions, this man came out of the establishment – properly a bit drunk and on his way home to the misses – I quickly fired of a few shoots, and ended up with this one.

Ain’t that much to say about the post process, I converted it to BW in Photoshop, and added a bit of sharpen.

Small Talk

Small Talk

On a summer holiday in Croatia in 2006, I went for a walk in the town of Rovinj.
Here I passed these two amazing ladies, who where talking about all kind of things…… well I do not speak Croatian, so I can´t be sure of what they where talking about, but it looked like they where having a good time.
I walked a little pas them to get a bit more of the street – which was totally empty – in the frame.

Normally, I usually ask people if I can take a picture of them, but in this case I diden’t cause it wouldn’t stop them in their talk, which often happens when you ask for permission, people stop what they are doing and it becomes a completely different photo.

The photo was given the royal treatment in photoshop, I’ve used Topaz filter, added a large vignette with blur and dark corners around the two ladies, the image was desaturated and I added a yellow/brown tone.

The Old Man From Croatia

The Old Man From Croatia

On the earlier mentioned holiday through eastern Europe, we came to a small town in Croatia, which I unfortunately have forgot the name of.
While the four others went snorkeling, I picked up my camera and went for a walk in town,  cause after a few photo-solving days, I hungered after making some photos.

After some time I came across this gentleman, which I kindly ask if I could take a picture of, he said yes.
When I had done what I had to do, I thank him and was on my way. but before I could leave he invited me inside, we went in to his backyard where he offered me a beer.
I was there for about 20 minutes. we did not speak the same language, yet we could communicate on some level.

It is moments like these, that makes making pictures of people something very special.

This is my first attempt at a HDR photo, it’s made from a single RAW file, I had absolutely no control of what I did – that has thankfully change over time – it’s all done in Photoshop, cause I didn’t know anything about Photo Matrix at that time. Anyway I kind of like the result, the HDR effect sort of makes him pop out of frame.
